Greatham Parish Council - Planning

The Planning Authority for the village of Greatham is East Hampshire District Council (EHDC). Residents wishing to submit a planning application must do so to this authority. EHDC will validate the application, allocate it a case number and then write to the immediate neighbours of the property and the Parish Council to advise them of the planning application.

The case number given to a planning application identifies the property on which the planning application has been made and the number in the series of planning applications for a single property. This case number is vital for identifying a specific planning application. With a case number such as F.20082/004/FUL, the first part of a case number (e.g. F.20082) refers to a specific property, the second part (e.g. 004) identifies the sequential number of the planning application against that property, and the third part of the case number identifies the type of planning application. So, for this example, this is the 4th planning application against this property.

Greatham Parish Council may choose to make a site visit to discuss the planning application with the applicants, and may also discuss the planning application with any immediate neighbours. The planning application will then be discussed at the next Parish Council meeting (or a specially-planned planning sub-committee meeting) at which the applicant may choose to attend to discuss their application or answer any questions that may arise. It is not mandatory for an applicant to attend the Parish Council meeting, but it can be helpful.

Having discussed the planning application, the Parish Council may submit a response to EHDC with their views and a recommendation that the planning application be approved or refused. However, it is important to note that whilst the views of the Parish Council are taken into consideration by the EHDC Planning Committee, it is not mandatory for the planning committee to agree with the Parish Council - indeed, in many cases, they do not agree with the Parish Council!

Any member of the public may also comment on a planning application, either in writing to EHDC or online via their website.
