Classes and Exams

At the heart of Dance Direction lies the range of classes run by Yolande Parkin.

MUSIC & MOVEMENT
For children aged 3 by August 31st for the following Sept. An imaginative class for the very beginnings of musicality and dance.

GRADES 1 - 6
For confident children - the work starts here (but we still enjoy ourselves!)

VOCATIONAL GRADES
Intermediate Foundation, Intermediate, Advanced 1, Advanced 2 - for those children who show great talent and fortitude.

PERFORMANCE AWARDS
Having passed the relevant grade, students can enter for these short but challenging exams, gaining bronze, silver, gold and gold star medals. The best part is the costumes!

JUNIOR JAZZ
A special class added in the run up to shows Non-syllabus and recreational but with a definite professional style.

SPIRITED STEPS AWARD
This cup is awarded once a term in recognition of hard work. It doesn't only go to the most talented children but also those who have made great strides or fought hard to maintain standards. A certificate is given to keep and the cup can be kept at home for the term.

DANCE JAMBOREES
Held in the run-up to Christmas - Great larks with the Can Can, Musical Mischief, Ribbons, Dancing in Colour, Chair Dancing, Balls and Stuff etc etc etc

ADULT'S CLASSES
Ballet each Wednesday: 9.15 - 10.30 am and Saturday: 2.00 - 3.15pm. Body Conditioning: Short courses available. Please contact for details.

Children can enter for Ballet exams at the age of 5. No exam is compulsory for progression within the school.

Vocational exams have to be taken in the correct order without omissions with the exception of Intermediate Foundation.

Once Grade 2 is obtained, talented pupils are selected for Dance Direction's special class, known affectionately as The Pirouettes, so that extra training can be directed at those who will then be entered for Ballet competitions, and also encouraged to audition for The Cecchetti Associate and Royal Ballet School Associate classes held in London. You will be advised if your child should audition. There are currently a number of children on the Cecchetti Associates programme with more auditioning for both programmes this year. An eleven year old pupil has recently been accepted for full time vocational training at Arts Educational, Tring.

Class Times are included in the latest newsletter which can be found on the News page. There are also details of Dressing Up Day and other exciting events.
